Mission Statement: Our names are Henry Shaffer and Jake Boyd. We are both BHS seniors and  the current Directors of the Brookline Tutor Mentor Program (BTMP). The Brookline Tutor Mentor Program was founded in 2014 with the mission of connecting Brookline High School students and Brookline Middle School Students (6th, 7th and 8th graders), not just for academic tutoring, but also to build bridges across the community. The program is completely free and we welcome students of all socioeconomic backgrounds. Rock Band: Burgeoning young musicians of all experience levels are invited to join us in starting a middle school rock band! The band will meet weekly to work on preparing a 3-5 song set, to be performed for the BTC community at the end of the fall semester. Kids will choose songs based on their own interest and gain valuable experience playing and collaborating with each other. Through this process, kids will learn music theory, listening skills, and improvisation while getting exposure to new kinds of music. Quiz Bowl is coming to BTC middle schoolers, led by members of the BHS Quiz Bowl team! Quiz Bowl is an activity that combines academics, trivia, competition, and fun! During 6-week sessions, students will answer long and short questions using practice packets (like this one), learn about all sorts of subjects (science, history, literature, math, pop culture, and more) by researching and memorizing, and gain a love for knowledge.  Participants will learn the Quiz Bowl format which includes individual questions with buzzers and group questions. Want to learn how to change a flat tire, or patch a tube?  What do you do if your brakes are rubbing on your tire or the chain falls off your bike?  Come to the Brookline Teen Center Makerspace to learn bike repair basics from a Brookline High School student mechanic.  Participants will learn how to use different bike tools, and develop the skills necessary to make basic bike repairs (flat fixing, hub repairs, tuning).  Students with financial need are eligible to receive a free bike, lock, and helmet at the conclusion of class. Brookline Engineering Project – Young Makers Program – Spring Session – Alternative Tier 1 class: This class is essentially three unique classes meeting concurrently, with high school mentors assigned to each discipline. Each of the three classes focus on a specialized area: coding, 3D modeling and remote control cars. Club GRCB: Club GRCB is Girls Rock Campaign Boston‘s year round program for girls and gender non-conforming youth in 6th-12th grades. During Club, youth form bands, write original songs, record their music, make music videos, and perform at the end of the semester! (Almost) Every Friday from 6:15-7:45PM, Parkour Generations comes to the BTC to offer parkour classes.  The classes are drop in, and are open to BTC members from 6th through 12th grade.  Prior to attending your first class, a parent/guardian must complete a Parkour Generations release.  Bring the completed/signed release to your first class.  There is no cost for BTC members to attend Friday parkour classes, but space is limited.  To reserve a spot in a Friday Parkour class, click here.  Email George at gzahka@brooklineteencenter.org with any questions.
