Rap 101 is an introductory workshop series where aspiring em cee’s will learn what it takes to write, record, and perform an original song. Through immersive writing exercises and exposure to music fundamentals led by experienced BTC music staff, students will collaborate on their songs with teen musicians who will provide original hip hop production. Students will be encouraged to develop a positive voice that speaks from their personal experience. The workshop series will culminate in a recording project and a final performance at the Middle School Monday Variety show on May 21st.
Rap 101 runs on Wednesdays, 3:30-5:00, from March 21st to May 16th, with a final performance on Monday, May 21st. There are no sessions during April Vacation (April 16th-20th). Rap 101 is available to 7th and 8th graders. All levels of experience are welcome.
Additional support throughout the program will be offered to students on Middle School Mondays at Brookline Teen Center from 3:00-4:00. Students will be able to come to BTC and work on music with the support of a high school teaching assistant during this time.
All music written by as well as presented to students will meet strict guidelines with respect to language and content.
