Leah James Abel is the Co-Founder, Instructor, Business Manager of Circus Up! Leah James Abel sprang about in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and has been performing and teaching from New York to China and Korea — dancing, clowning, stilting, twisting around trapezes, or parading around with someone standing on her shoulders for over 10 years. Leah holds a Masters in Social Work from Simmons College. Leah loves to perform and teach with the nonprofit charity Clowns Without Borders– which has taken her many times to Haiti, once to work with migrant youth in Texas and once to Palestine. Leah has been company member and a freelancer in NYC, perfecting her funny persona and aerial skills (Cirque Boom and Kirkos). For over two years she frolicked and toured with Imago Theatre, in 2 Portland, Oregon-based mask and puppet theater shows: Frogz and Biglittlethings. Leah works for Big Apple Circus Clown Care Unit at Boston Children’s Hospital. Currently, Leah continues to have glorious time working for over 6 years as a coach in and around Boston including Boston University’s Aerial Dance program and Esh. Leah also surprisingly completed her Masters in Environmental Law and Policy at Vermont Law School. Leah loves the circus world and is happiest there.
